Candle Care: Tips to Make Your Candles Last Longer

There is nothing quite like the warm glow and soothing aroma of a beautiful candle. Whether it is setting the mood for a cozy evening or adding a touch of elegance to your decor, candles are the ultimate home accessory. To get the most out of your candles, it is important to care for them properly. With a few simple tips, you can ensure your candles burn evenly, last longer, and fill your space with their delightful fragrance.

1. Trim the Wick

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A shorter wick helps control the flame, reducing soot and ensuring an even burn. Invest in a wick trimmer or simply use scissors.

2. Let It Burn… But Not Too Long

On the first burn, let the wax melt across the entire surface, edge to edge. This prevents tunneling, where wax builds up on the sides and reduces the candle’s lifespan. Aim for a burn time of 1 to 4 hours per session, depending on the candle size.

3. Keep It Away from Drafts

Avoid placing candles near vents, windows, or fans. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, and excess smoke. Choose a stable, draft free spot for your candle.

4. Use a Snuffer

Blowing out your candle can create smoke and disrupt the even surface of the wax. Instead, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame cleanly and safely.

5. Clean Your Vessels

After your candle is fully burned, don’t toss that beautiful concrete vessel! Clean out any remaining wax by placing the vessel in the freezer for a few hours, then gently prying out the leftover wax. Your concrete container can be repurposed as a planter, pencil holder, or chic storage jar.

Bonus Tip: Store Smart

Keep your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat or sunlight can cause discoloration and affect the fragrance.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy your candles to their fullest potential while keeping them looking and smelling their best. Treat your candles with care, and they’ll reward you with many hours of glowing ambiance.
